Hi there. My name's John.
When I arrived in the UK 25 years ago, I was just an Aussie actor and teacher, with no plans of becoming a voiceover at all.
But when some mates described my voice as unusual (in a nice way, of course), I wrote to a few agents and quickly found myself on their books.
It won't surprise you that many of those early VO jobs asked me to 'be the crocodile man from down under, mate!' But then poor ol' Steve Irwin got stung by that stingray, and a chunk of that work dried up.
Luckily there has always been demand for Australian voices, and with my natural talent for accents, I was quickly able to expand into loads of new markets.
Commercials have provided the main thrust of my business, though I've also voiced many audiobooks, which is some of my favourite work, including a recent title for audible, narrating Adam Courtenay's impressive 'The Ship That Never Was'.
While I try to disappear into the hundreds of characters I've had to play, when it comes to the guy you get on the mic, I always show up as the eternal optimist that I truly am.
My life experience has always shown that if you 'have a go' and head in with a great attitude, then you will most likely succeed - though not always as promptly as you might like!
